Coraline Summary

Author: Neil Gaiman

I love the book Coraline it is one of my favorite books. It has mystery and loads of suspense. Now, I am going to write a summary or you. Thank You to Madhavi who gave me the idea of doing a summary!

A young, girl named Coraline Jones moves into an apartment, in an old house,  with her parents.  Her neighbors include 2 elderly, retired actresses and a strange man, who lives upstairs, and trains mice for a circus act. Despite this weirdness, Coraline is very bored. Her parents work a lot and intend to ignore Coraline.

One day, Coraline discovers a door with a brick wall behind it. But, when she opens the door in the night, there is a hallway leading to somewhere. When Coraline goes through that door, she ends up in an entirely different world but everything looks the same as he house. In that world, Coraline has an other mother (the beldam), an other father and other neighbors. And in that world, cats can talk.

Coraline decides that the other world is weird (I agree too) because the beldam asked her to were buttons and sow them on her eyes and so she heads back to her real home.  But when she arrives home, her parents are missing. The Beldam has kidnapped them and Coraline has to go back to that creepy world to bring them back. Spoiler Alert: she succeeds. She gets her parents back and in the meantime, she saved the souls of the 3 kidnapped children in the cellar of the beldam's house. Coraline then returns home.

But wait, it's not quite over. It turns out that the beldam followed Coraline to her home. Coraline plays the last trick by trapping the beldam's hand and she succeeds. After that, she was exited to start her new school and have great opportunities to make new friend.

Thank You and please leave a comment!

  2. Sorry that was my mistake. The beldam asked Coraline to WEAR buttons and sow them on her real eyes. Sorry about that.
